"Sg. Chiling" @ 5:12 PM
A week ago Karl's KG, consisting of 6 guys and myself set off on an adventure in search of a elusive waterfall called Chiling Falls. Not that the waterfall was hidden away extremely deep into the jungle that no man has ever laid eyes on her, it's just that we were mighty horrible with directions (We got lost before Kuala Kubu Bahru and after that too) and inept in map-reading. (We didn't even bother to check any map when one was clearly there at the entrance before we entered the jungle.)
But it was very fun.
I've always wanted to explore Chiling since I've heard so much about it, the two attempts I made previously to seek the falls were dampen by bad timing and my mother who is extremely wary of killer waves that will suck me into the river's current and flush me away forever and ever. D: Despite it raining the night before the trip, mum was still surprisingly okay with the idea. So yes I was super excited.
The trail was meant to be much kinder to visitors compared to Sg.Lepok (went there previously with Meng Chwen & Co. and we had to climb the steep hill a fair bit), we only had to cross roughly 5 rivers and hey presto! We'd have arrived at our destination. Obviously nothing ever goes right on trips like these, and hence we got lost. Not once, but twice. In total that amounted up to 4 lost trips :D
We ended up going up a steep hill and met with crumbly rocks that were pretty dangerous. I had the time of my life there figuring out how to come down from the slopes and not die of fright in the process when we were turning back. For a split second I missed Meng Chwen (crazy Nee On too) very much, since he was always there to teach me how to move about dubious areas of potential danger in all the treks we did together with the others. This was actually my first trek without him, it suddenly felt kinda funny not having someone with his experience around, hm. But I'll get used to it.
So we went downhill, and took another trail following the river. We unconsciously deviated from the normal path at some point anyway, and went uphill *again*, this is with sheer luck we had traveled straight towards the falls and avoided all the river crossings. Although, on the way back we took the original trail and crossed the rivers instead.
The sight of the waterfall was just gloriously breath-taking. I don't even know how to begin describing it, all I knew was that whatever pain and tiredness I felt from being mercilessly cut by dead ferns all along the trail mattered squat when I stood before the falls.

All in all it was really an eye-opening experience. I remember my first ever trek was with a bunch of super experienced trekking guys up Suku, and I felt safe in their hands, there was absolutely nothing to be afraid of save the embarrassment of being a girl should I end up slowing their pace down. This time it was the other way round, we were an inexperienced bunch, have *never* been there before, and I was wearing the wrong pair of shoes that made me worried of slipping the whole time. But there was no time to worry for myself when I felt so compelled to keep looking out for others. It sounds silly, but I did feel like a mother watching my kids playing in the water and climbing up dangerous rocks. Only God knows I've never prayed this fervently hard up any trek before in my life!
So I've learnt to just use my reliable pair of shoes next time all the time, then half my worries will be solved.
